Supporting local and helping the environment - a double win! Jenny from The Source Bulk Foods Wagga Wagga shares their 'grassroots' story below.

Q. How did your grassroots story start?

A.  My husband and I spent a year travelling in a caravan before settling in Wagga Wagga. We were able to experience amazing quality food along the way and by shopping at The Source have a greater impact on our environment by reducing waste. We realised that Wagga Wagga didn’t have this option, so we brought The Source Bulk Foods to the city!

Q. How would you define your business/service as local?

A. The Source is located in the heart of Wagga Wagga. After living in Hillston as farmers we wanted to move to a bigger location and we love how innovative and exciting Wagga Wagga is becoming in its growth. We love the feel and buzz of Wagga Wagga as well as the beautiful surrounds. As a community it very much has a country spirit! We have been here three years now and consider Wagga Wagga home. We love working with our local honey and olive oil suppliers and support local cafes. We also support local sporting teams.

Q. How have you pivoted during this time of Covid-19? And, have you experienced an increase in ‘shopping local?’

A.  We have seen an increase in business as customers are looking at where else they can purchase goods and supplies from. Our customers feel at home when they shop with us because of the beautiful community we have created.

Q. Why is it important for consumers to root for local? 
A.  With so many businesses closing down and especially family-run, small local business it’s important we keep these businesses afloat. These are the business that create community and belonging for people, and we have an amazing selection of growers and creators in our region. Shopping local creates opportunities, jobs, expansion.

Q. What’s next for your business/service?

A.  We will continue to build our beautiful community and support other local businesses and continue to reduce waste which has a huge impact on our beautiful environment. Lots of education and workshops!
