Wiradjuri Reserve is located along the Mururmbidgee River, just minutes from the city centre. The concrete boat ramp is the ideal place to launch your boat and enjoy fishing in the river.
The Wiradjuri Walking Track also winds its way through the reserve, alongside the Murrumbidgee.
A shanty town, or fringe camp, was established on the Wiradjuri Reserve in the 1930s. The settlement, locally known as Tintown, consisted of numerous huts occupied by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families, dependant on government rations during the Great Depression.
Though the town authorities tried to clear the Tintown camp in the 1940s, people continued to live in the settlement until the 1950s.
Jack Argus, who was born in 1922 and grew up at Tintown, said: "There were hundreds of huts on both sides of the river, Aboriginal and white families. It used to be known as Tent Town here, then it was Tintown and then later people called it the Bend. You didn’t like to be known as coming from Tintown, so you called it the Flats, because people didn’t know where that was" (Kabaila 1998).
",

Meandering through the Victory Memorial Gardens and Civic Centre precinct in the centre of Wagga, the Wollundry Lagoon is the perfect spot to relax or enjoy a pleasant stroll amongst native vegetation.
The lagoon is important to Aboriginal people for its spiritual, historical, social and aesthetic values. It is associated with the Dreaming story of the Wawi, a reptile-like spirit which resided in, and protected the Lagoon.
Wollundry is an Anglicised word derived from the Wiradjuri language. 'Walang' means 'stone' or 'hard' and 'duray', means 'having' or 'place of'. Thus Wollundry (Walangduray) means 'stone-having' or 'place of stones'. The name is probably a reference to a granite rock bar (outcropping rocks) in the river below the present day St John's Church or to the granite on which the church stands.
The surrounding sandhills have been used by Aboriginal groups for camping. At the time of European settlement, families camped near the lagoon and surrounding areas. Major gatherings attended by 400-500 Aboriginal people or 'grand corroborees' occurred in 1842 and 1843.
Traditional Wiradjuri food and medicine collecting and cultural activities were practised at least until the 1870s, including the use of fish balks, or weirs, for managing supplies of fish.
",

The Marrambidya Wetland is a valuable community resource for educational, cultural and passive recreational activities.
A stunning 20-hectare reserve located alongside the Murrumbidgee River only a few minutes from the Wagga Wagga city centre. The wetland features a Wiradjuri Healing Place, with natural vegetation, seating area and hand-carved totem pole.
The name was selected as the name of this special place to reflect the importance of this site to the local Wiradjuri people and to acknowledge the traditional name of the Murrumbidgee River. The site is also located between two Aboriginal place names, Gobbagumbalin and Wiradjuri Reserve.
The Healing Place was created within the Marrambidya Wetland as a place of reflection and healing for all to sit amongst nature with the river flowing nearby. The Healing Place features a number of plants traditionally utilised by the Wiradjuri people.
Water was central to the Wiradjuri way of life including the floodplains, creeks, billabongs and the Murrumbidgee River (Marrambidya). Therefore the site on which the Marrambidya Wetland is now situated would have been of great importance to the local Wiradjuri People.
",
